3 Signs Of Roof Damage That Need Immediate Attention

When you have a beautiful home in the country or town, you do everything you can to keep it looking good all year round, but there are some things that are beyond our control. The exteriors of our homes are subjected to the elements, and we all know how wet, wild and windy the weather can be. Over time, this can lead to serious problems occurring. Your roof is your home’s first line of defense, so major roof damage can leave your house uninhabitable while potentially costly repairs are carried out. That’s why you should take immediate action when the first signs of roof damage become apparent. Here are three signs you should look for.

Cracked And Missing Tiles

It seems that we’re getting more storms throughout the year than ever before, and their strong gusting winds can spell danger for roofs, especially those which have been in place for a long time. If you have a cracked or missing tile in the aftermath of a storm, you immediately have a weak point in which water can get through to the roofing membrane, and then potentially into your property itself. Visually inspect your roof after a storm, and if something doesn’t look right call a roofing repair specialist. They’ll be able to inspect the roof more thoroughly, and if there is damage, they can replace cracked or missing tiles and slates, nipping potential problems in the bud.

By the way, the added attention to your roof may have sparked ideas of roof upgrades or even a conversion – this would be the ideal time to include a specialist like PROJECTS 4 ROOFING. Since you’re replacing tiles already, you could consider adding a sun room to your home since it means adding to the roof.

Water Ingress

Perhaps the most obvious, and potentially most urgent, sign of damage to your roof is water coming into the loft or upper story of your property. This is a sign that needs immediate action, as failure to do so can result in water damage throughout your property, as well as collapsed ceilings and possibly the need for a replacement roof. On the first sign of water ingress through the roof, you should call expert roofers Belfast. They’ll be able to assess the cause of the water penetration and the remedial action needed. Remember – a timely repair today can save far greater inconvenience tomorrow. As well, for damage that’s already occurred to your loft or attic, you’ll need to contact experts that specialize in repair of those specific areas, such as the experts at Loft insulation Northern Ireland.

Moss Formation

Moss is not only an unsightly addition to your roof; it can also show that damage is being done that could grow into a major problem for the roof and your property as a whole. The problem with moss is that it soaks up water like a sponge, and this can then make its way beneath the tiles and slates, greatly increasing the chance of water penetration and weakening the roof structure. If you see moss accumulation, call your roofing experts. They will be able to remove moss quickly and, just as importantly, safely, and help to discourage its return.

The sooner roof damage is repaired, the sooner you can have a warm, dry home again without the worry of the damage growing worse. That’s why you should always look out for leaks, missing slates and shingles, moss growth, and other signs such as fallen mortar, damp patches inside the property and light coming through the roof. Your roof repair specialists have the skills and expertise to assess these problems and take remedial action, so keep their number on hand and call them when you spot the first signs of roof damage.
