5 Easy Homemade DIY Facial Scrub Recipes

Do you often crave for the same flawless and smooth skin you had as a child? Dust, pollution, and harsh weather conditions often take a toll on your skin making it prone to acne, pigmentation, blemishes, etc. You may even end up buying a plethora of expensive skincare products to restore the natural glow of your skin. These products, however, contain chemicals and dyes that can cause further damage to your skin.

Fortunately, you can develop a skincare regimen completely based on natural ingredients. Homemade beauty products work wonders and don’t have any adverse side effects. The best part is that most of these ingredients are readily available at your nearest grocery store. Moreover, they will likely cost much less than fancy and branded skincare products.

Exfoliation is one of the most crucial steps of any beauty regimen. It cleanses your pores and helps remove dirt, impurities, and dead skin cells from your face and body. You can even use exfoliating scrub for fake tan removal. From coffee grounds and rice powder to sugar and oatmeal – you can use various natural products to whip up some DIY facial scrub. You just have to identify the ingredients that suit your skin type.

5 Easy to Make DIY Facial Scrub Recipes:

1. Coffee Scrub

Do you crave the aroma of freshly ground and brewed coffee every morning? It can be even more enticing when you have one of the awesome Keurig coffee makers at home. But you’d be making a huge mistake if you throw away the residual coffee grounds. They have magical nourishing properties that can completely transform your skin.

The leftover coffee grounds are rich in antioxidants that can protect your skin from premature aging. Additionally, it heals inflammation and helps remove dust particles and dead skin cells. You can either apply it directly to your face or mix it with some honey/coconut oil. Massage your face in a circular motion for a few minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. It is likely one of the most effortless and pocket-friendly scrubs you can make at home.

2. Oatmeal Scrub

Many of us are aware of the amazing health benefits of oatmeal. But did you know that this same oatmeal can change the look and feel of your skin? Just grind the oatmeal in a food processor or blender and store in an airtight jar. For application, mix it with a few drops of milk or honey to form a paste and rub gently across your face. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat try with a soft towel.

The best part about this oatmeal scrub is that you can safely store it for months. Even a few tablespoons of oatmeal is enough to yield a jar full of the exfoliant. Moreover, it is a gentle scrub that can be used daily without damaging your skin. Regular application of this scrub helps remove blemishes and restore the healthy glow of your skin.

3. Honey & Semolina Scrub

Honey is a great natural moisturizer with anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Semolina acts as an exfoliant that can remove even the toughest of blackheads. The combination of these ingredients is a great scrub for winters, especially if you have dry or combination skin. It nourishes your skin and removes blackheads, blemishes, dark spots, etc.

Just mix a teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of semolina to form a thick paste. Rub lightly all over your face and let it rest for five to ten minutes. When you wash your face, you will notice an immediate difference in the texture of your skin. You can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to make it more effective. This recipe can be used to make a soothing body scrub as well. If you have tanned skin, you can also add a small amount of yogurt to the mixture.

4. Rice & Honey Scrub

Coarsely ground rice acts as an excellent exfoliator. When mixed with honey, it forms a soothing scrub that helps remove blackheads and dead skin. Regular application of this scrub also removes tan, heals sunburn, and improves your complexion.

All you have to do is grind the rice to form a coarse powder and mix it with a few drops of honey. Apply to your face and rub in a gentle circular motion. Leave for a few minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.

5. Sugar and Coconut Oil Scrub

This homemade scrub combines the magical exfoliating power of sugar with the excellent moisturizing properties of coconut oil. Just mix a tablespoon of granulated sugar with a teaspoon and a half of solidified coconut oil. Gently massage your face with the mixture and let it sit for five minutes. Wash it off with a mild cleanser. Since this scrub uses coconut oil, it is not recommended for people with oily skin.

This combination also works as an amazing lip scrub. Rub gently over your lips and leave for a few minutes before rinsing with warm water. It is recommended that you use it before applying any lipstick.

Your kitchen and refrigerator are likely filled with ingredients that have impeccable skincare benefits. From something as inexpensive as granulated sugar to something as hassle-free as ground oatmeal – the possibilities are endless. The next time you run out of your favorite face scrub, just raid your kitchen to find the best ingredients for a simple homemade scrub.
