When building a home the most difficult part is generally the construction of the structure. This is the part that has to be strong enough to withstand the elements, keep you dry, and be durable enough to last for years.

However, the most exciting phase is definitely the fitout. This is where your house turns into a home. It can be fun to watch the various tradespeople transform your house. But, it can also be hectic, very messy, and easy for mistakes to happen.

That’s why you need to understand the 5 essential steps to a successful residential fitout:

The Right Help

If you hire the wrong people they will look to cut every corner possible in order to save money and still make your house look good. In the short term, it will be fine, in the long-term you’ll have lots of things that need to be sorted out.

The established technique is to hold some of the funds back until the house has passed a final inspection. However, it’s much better to use a reputable construction company Sydney and skip the issue altogether.

They may cost a little more but you’ll be saving money on future repairs/alterations, and you’ll find the process much less hassle.

Stick To The Plan

You probably spent a long time and enough funds getting the design completed and approved. The fitout is not the time to let contractors do what they think is right. The plans are there for a reason, if the contractors can’t stick to the plan then you need different contractors.

Don’t go along with unscheduled changes because you’re the one that’s going to regret it when you live there.

If you’ve chosen for the ductwork to be hidden or your kitchen to be laid out a certain way then make sure the contractors do it your way.

Organize The Tradespeople

You’re going to have plumbers, electricians, drylining specialists, and a variety of other workers in the house at the same time. You need to ensure they are not hindering each other as they work. Devise a plan that will ensure everything gets done in the right order and stick to it.

It’s better to take a little longer and get the right result than to rush it.

Certifications

Before you allow anyone to work on your residential fitout you need to check that they have the necessary insurance and professional certifications/qualifications. This is important as properly qualified workers won( just do the work to a high standard. They’ll also offer warranties and be prepared to fix issues if they arise after the fitout is completed.

Flooring

Finally, an often overlooked aspect of the fitout is the flooring. It’s easy to cut corners here, especially in the kitchen. You need to ensure the flooring covers the entire room and the units are fitted afterward. If it’s done the other way round the floor will only go up to the cupboards, giving you an issue if you ever want to alter the layout in the future.
