5 Great Remodeling Ideas on a Budget

Are you ready to make some changes to your home but aren’t sure you have the money? This situation can be frustrating.

However, there are some creative ways you can update your home for less. Check out these five great ideas for getting started with remodeling on a budget.

5 Great Remodeling Ideas on a Budget

Add Crown Molding

If your wall meets the ceiling making a square corner, the room can look like a simple box. Crown molding is an inexpensive way to add some style.

This method involves a type of trim that connects the walls to the ceiling. Several styles are available online and at local hardware stores.

It comes at a reasonable price, so you can get the amount you need for one room for about $100-$300. If you choose to paint it before hanging, the cost will be a bit higher. To cut perfect corners when installing crown molding, you’ll need a miter box and saw.

Give Your Tub a Stone-Textured Exterior

This project seems like it would be difficult, but anyone can do it. The trick is in using AirStone, a lightweight synthetic material that gives the appearance of stone.

To get started, you’ll need a box of AirStone and a bucket of construction adhesive. Together, they cost under $100 at local home improvement stores. A hacksaw is an essential tool to have on hand to cut the material.

Replace Old Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring can get ugly over time, so you could be wondering how to replace it on a budget. Installing self-stick vinyl tiles might solve your problem. Changing the flooring in a small bathroom may cost as little as $50 in materials.

If you’re feeling ambitious, you could glue pennies to the floor after removing the laminate. This option costs only about $2 per square foot but requires a lot of coins. You’ll need construction adhesive and a significant amount of patience.

Upgrade Basement Steps

Many homes have old carpets on the stairs to the basement. If you’re tired of yours, there’s a budget-friendly fix.

You can rip up the carpet and refinish the wood underneath. The planks are typically rough, but they’ll look much better with a little sanding and a fresh coat of color. This project typically costs about $100 for sandpaper, paint, and stain.

You can use contrasting colors to achieve a beautiful result. For instance, stain the steps a dark color, then paint the vertical slats white.

Renew Kitchen Countertops

Have you considered replacing your countertops to give your workspace a new look? Material like granite and marble can be expensive. However, a faux butcher block surface can cost under $100 for a small kitchen.

Purchase wooden planks at least three-fourths of an inch thick. Cut and glue them in a way that hides the joints as much as possible, then stain them according to your taste. Using a dark color can help give the impression that it’s one piece of wood.

In a Nutshell

Remodeling your home on a budget can be challenging, but it’s not impossible. You can add charm to a room with crown molding or give your bathtub a stone-textured exterior.

You can also replace old laminate flooring or upgrade your basement steps for under $100. Renewing kitchen countertops is also a budget-friendly possibility. By trying all these ideas, you can make your home beautiful even with limited resources.
