If you’re looking to connect to nature and enjoy some of the wide-open spaces that Hawaii have on offer, then visiting Maui should be on top of your list of things to do. However, among the best regions to visit in Hawaii is the Kona coast, situated on the western side and an excellent place for soaking up some sun, enjoy various water sports and gain knowledge about the local history. Here are five great attractions to visit when visiting the Kona Coast.

Going For A Swim In The Sea

While numerous ocean locations are too chilly to engage in a good swim, the Kona Coast is an excellent place to go for a swim with its warm waters. A great place is Hoókena Beach park where you can also put up a tent in the campground which is right on the beach. On the North side is Hapuna Beach which is known for its soft sands and optimal swimming circumstances. This area boasts colorful fish species which is close to the shore. This type of beer is found across the mainland US;however, you can also taste many more at the actual brewery. You can enjoy a meal and some beer at the Kona Pub & brewery which offers both outdoor and indoor seating. The local beer and pizza are delicious; however, you might have to wait a while for a table since this spot tend to get very busy during the evenings.

Enjoying A Shaved Ice Treat

No trip to this Hawaiian spot is complete without at least trying one tasty shaved ice treat. This is one of the Hawaiian specialties and a refreshing treat made by shaving blocks of ice. There is a great selection of flavors to try and you can enjoy pure decadence with the addition of a hint of condensed milk on top and a scoop of ice cream under. Five places to visit for some shave ice treats are:

  • Da Shaved Ice Place

Paying A Visit To Kaloko-Honokonhau National Historical Park

Here you can gain more insight about Hawaiian history while you can experience the breath-taking scenery of the Kona area. You can visit the lava flows and discover how the ancient inhabitants fished here. Hiking through the rugged lava fields is another popular activity along the coast while viewing large sea turtles that is found in this area. The seashore offers a serene and tranquil experience and you can buy trinkets at the bookshop and visitor center where they offer information about petroglyphs, sea turtles, and fishing.

Relaxing In The Outdoor Kona Airport

Not everyone enjoys air travel that much, however, the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport offers a unique experience.
