5 Ways To Get Your Garden Ready For Spring

With spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start cleaning up your garden and getting it ready for the warmer weather. Everyone loves to spend time in their gardens during spring and summer, but if you start getting things ready before then, you can sit back and relax in the warm sun. So you should start some of your clean-up during winter to lessen the burden on yourself later on.

5 Ways To Get Your Garden Ready For Spring

Start pruning your bushes and trees

If you want your garden to look good and healthy all summer long, you need to prune your trees and branches at the start of spring. Pruning trees and bushes will help them to grow big and strong and it will also make them look neater in your garden as well because you can control where they grow when you prune them. Investing in a good pair of pruning shears or an electric tree trimmer can make pruning and trimming your trees a lot easier, so you should buy or hire one before you start your garden clean-up. A lot of people put off pruning until this time of year because it can be a lot of hassle to clean up after yourself once the job is done. However, it doesn’t have to be a messy job if you call in a professional to help you. Green waste removalists like 1300 Rubbish are great at getting rid of your green waste from trees and shrubs, so you don’t have to worry about cleaning up any mess when you decide to trim your plants and trees.

Whack away the weeds

If you haven’t been tending to your garden very much over the winter, now is the time to start and the first thing that you should do is get rid of any weeds. Every gardener knows that weeds can be harmful to most plants because they can disrupt growth, so you need to get rid of them before they start to interfere with the plants that you are growing. If you have a large area of weeds in your garden that will be hard to pick out by hand, you should try using weed killer chemicals or investing in some weeding tools like a trowel or a fork that can pull the weeds out. You can even find garden weeder tools that are made specifically for removing weeds by the root so that you don’t have to use a lot of force when removing weeds in your garden.

Fix up your lawn

Your lawn is one of the biggest and most important parts of your garden, so you need to look after it. But it is especially important to get your lawn looking good during spring and summer because you will be spending more time doing outdoor activities on your lawn during the warmer months of the year. Most people know that you need to mow your lawn regularly to keep in good shape all year round, but sometimes we can get a little bit lazy about mowing the lawn when it is cold outside. However, if you mow your lawn more often, your grass will grow back thicker and stronger, so you won’t have to tend to it very often. There are many lawnmowers out there on the market, so try to find one that will work well with the type of grass that you have in your garden. You also need to think about the colour of your lawn, because if your lawn is not a vivid green, you may need to water it more.

Get rid of garden pests

Something else that can happen to plants that are left alone for long periods of time is that pests may attack them. Depending on where you live in the world, you could have a range of different insects and animals that can destroy your plants if they are left unattended, so you need to fight big against them if they are running your garden. To get rid of insects, you need to start by removing any infected or eaten leaves, so that you can let the rest of the plant that hasn’t been damaged keep growing. Then you need to invest in a good quality insecticide so that the insects don’t want to come back and start eating away at your plants. If you are growing fruits or vegetables, it is important to buy a natural insecticide for your plants so that you don’t make yourself sick when you eat the plants that have been sprayed. If you are having problems with other animals, you may need to set up some nets or a wire fence to block pests from destroying your garden at night.

Think about garden storage

Most people have a lot of tools and equipment that they use to fix up their gardens, so you need to think about how you store these items when they are not being used. Keeping your garden tools and equipment in a shed or a garage will stop them from going blunt or rusty, so you should always put them away once you are finished with them. You should also try to clean up and sharpen your tools before you use them in your garden. Some tools like a hoe or garden shears should be sharpened before you use them so that it is easier to cut things with, whereas other tools like shovels and spades can be hard to use if they have dry bits of dirt that are stuck to them. Looking after your garden tools is important because they are essential for gardeners who want to keep their gardens looking good all year round. Also, tools can be expensive to replace if they are damaged year after year. So, if you want them to last, you need to store them away properly and clean them before storing them away for a long period of time.

There are many things that you can do to get your garden ready for spring, so it is important to start preparing as soon as you can. Some tasks like organising your tools may be easy to do and you should complete them in a few hours. Other tasks like fixing your lawn can take a bit longer, so you will need to factor this into your plan. However, if you tend to your garden all year round, you will find that you won’t have to do as much when it comes to spring and summer. So you should start fixing up your garden now so that it looks amazing by springtime.
