7 Common Household Items To Clean Your Carpet

7 Common Household Items To Clean Your Carpet

A majority of homeowners have carpeting or rugs in their homes. They can make a home look and feel more comfortable. It can also be a cheaper type of flooring compared to options such as hardwood or tile. Keeping your carpets looking and smelling fresh can be a big job. It requires constant vacuuming, precautionary measures and deep cleaning from time to time, especially if there has been a spill.

Before spending unnecessary money renting a carpet cleaning machine or hiring the services of professional carpet cleaners Brisbane, below are some tried and true cleaning products you may already have at your disposal in your home. Some common household solutions may take care of stubborn stains. Below are some of the top homemade carpet cleaners to consider.

7 Hacks to Clean Your Carpet

1. Beer

This product may surprise most people. Beer can be a great carpet cleaner when used properly. It is best when used on tea and coffee stains. When either of those liquids is spilled, the spot will need to be cleaned quickly to avoid major stains setting in. Pour some beer on top of the spilled liquid. Rub the mixture lightly. You should notice the stain getting lighter and beginning to disappear. Try a few applications until the stain is fully gone. However, it is important to keep a check on the wear out of your carpet piles. If by any chance, you find the carpet being ruined by rubbing it, you should call in the best carpet cleaning in Peterborough to help you. The professionals will make sure that your carpet is not harmed and the stain is still gone.

2. Ammonia

When searching for a home cleaning solution that is more of a general cleaner, ammonia is a good choice. Mix two liters of warm water with a cup of clear ammonia. For dirty or stained areas, sponge the ammonia solution on the spots and let it completely dry. Repeat the process several times until the stain has been removed.

3. Shaving Cream

Most people have this product in their homes, but most have no idea that it can be a great option for removing stains on carpeting caused by juices. First, blot the stain with a clean rag or sponge. Next, cover the stain with shaving cream. After letting it sit for a few minutes, blot the shaving cream with a wet rag. The stain should be gone. Shaving cream has also been found to work wonders on grease and oil stains.

4. Salt

For red wine stains, salt can be the perfect home cleaning remedy. Anyone who has ever spilled red wine on their carpeting knows that it can be difficult to remove, especially if it dries. To remove a red wine stain, dilute it first with some white wine. Next, clean the stain with a sponge and cold water. Next, pour some table salt on the stain and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes. Once it dries, vacuum up the salt. You will see the stain disappear before your eyes.

5. Borax

Borax is another product to clean your carpet that many homeowners may already have on hand. To use for stains, pour some of the product onto the spot needing to be cleaned. Dampen the area and rub the borax in. Let it dry completely and then vacuum up the mixture. You may also choose to use a vinegar and soapy water solution to clean the stain and let it dry. Borax is perfect to use on all types of stains.

6. WD-40

Ink stains can be difficult to get out of carpeting. If you spilled some, don’t worry. Grab your can of WD-40 and let it get the pesky stain up. Spray the spot with the product and allow it to sit for a couple of minutes. Do not let it dry. Next, clean the stain with some warm soapy water. If the stain is not completely gone, repeat the process one or two more times.

7. Hydrogen Peroxide

When you have no idea what caused a stain on your carpet, it may be best to try and remove it with hydrogen peroxide. To work, mix the product with some cream of tartar. It should create a paste that you can rub onto the stain. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes and then rinse the area clean. The stain should be removed once you finish cleaning the area.

These are just some of the best options to clean your carpet using household items. If you have trouble removing a stain using these products, consult with a professional carpet cleaning company in your area.
