7 Signs That Your Roof Needs Maintenance

7 Signs That Your Roof Needs Maintenance

There are many factors that affect how long your roof will last, but if you take good care of it, you can make your roof last longer. Here are some of the most obvious signs that your roof needs to be fixed or replaced.

If you take care of your roof, you may need to fix it less often, save money on your monthly energy bills, and improve the look of your home. The best way to ensure your roof is in good shape is to check and fix it regularly.

Damage That Can Be Seen

One of the most obvious signs that your roof needs work is the broken shingles. Storms often cause damage to the shingles on a roof. Wear and tear, along with bad installation, could kill them. Your roof might look uneven because some of the shingles are broken. Avoid dark or “wet” spots, wavy shingles or strange colors, and missing or broken shingles.

Even though it seems simple, a roofer should fix a missing or damaged shingle. This will stop the roof from getting worse and worse. If you want to do it yourself, then take a sample of your shingle to a good roofing materials supplier.

Leaks And Streaks Of Water

Leaks are a clear sign that your roof needs to be fixed by a professional. Water could get in if your roof has a hole, the seams are coming apart, or the flashing is broken. Your house could get a lot of damage from water leaks. If the house isn’t taken care of, the roof could fall apart, the walls could rot, and mold could grow.

This will need expensive repairs, like a new roof, repairs to the structure, and getting rid of mold. Leaks cost money and can be dangerous, so don’t wait any longer before the damage gets too expensive to repair.

Leaky Roof Vents

When you check your roof for possible repairs, look for metal and plastic roof vents with cracked seams or broken housings. It might be tempting to try to fix it quickly with a sealer. This temporary fix will only put off the inevitable, though. The only way to fix the roof in this area is to replace the broken vent, which a professional roofer can only do.

Granules In The Gutters

It’s normal to find leaves and twigs in gutters when you clean them. Granules from the roof shouldn’t be in the gutters. When it rains a lot, it’s normal for there to be granules in the gutters, but too many of them should be a cause for concern.

Roof granules are important because they keep the sun and rain from damaging your roof. Your roof may have fewer granules if it gets old. When your roof’s granules are worn down, it’s time to get a new one. After a big storm, you must limit the number of times you walk on the roof and check the granules repeatedly.

Cracking Or Flaking Paint

Do you think that your home’s curb appeal is getting worse? If the paint or siding outside your house is peeling or has changed color, you might think it’s time to repaint. Even so, your roof may be the real enemy. If the paint or stain along the edge of your roof is peeling, it’s probably because of moisture. Before you spend money painting the outside of your house, have a roofer look at it to see if it needs to be fixed.

Finding Moss on the Roof

If your roof is full of moss, you should have it cleaned by a pro. A little bit of moss here is fine, but a lot of it could mean that your roof is holding too much water. Moss, which grows best in damp, cool places, could cause a lot of damage to your roof. If moss stays on a roof for a long time, it could cause it to fall apart.

The Price Of Energy Has Gone Through The Roof

If your energy costs are rising, you might decide to turn up the heat and turn off the lights. Even though these tips might help you save money, they are probably not why your energy costs are so high. When a house has problems with its foundation or roof, it might not work as well as its owners would like.

Conclusion

The roof is a vital part of your home. Keeping your roof strong and sturdy is very important. Letting your roof sustain damage is not a good idea. The best thing is that your roof lets you know when it needs some tending. Watch your roof for the signs mentioned above of damage. Get it repaired on time cause precaution is better than cure.
