Should I Have Plastic Surgery?

Should I Have Plastic Surgery

Everyone has something they are unhappy about when it comes to their appearance. In some cases, the solution can be as easy as working out to drop a few extra pounds, a haircut, or updating a wardrobe. In other cases, though, it requires a change to some of the foundational aspects of the body.

When this is the case, plastic surgery is an option. And with movie celebrities and social media stars taking advantage of this option so often, it can seem like the best move to make. However, before you make such a decision, it’s important to have the facts. Read about some of the most essential pros and cons below so that you can make the best choice for you.

Pros of Plastic Surgery

The biggest benefit of plastic surgery is that it can improve your self-confidence – and confidence can change your life. It can give you the boost you need to get out and meet new people, go for your dream job, strengthen your relationships, and so much more.

How, exactly, does plastic surgery raise your confidence? By addressing the perceived imperfections that make you uncomfortable, such as:

  • Wrinkles and loose skin
  • Obesity
  • Nose size or shape
  • Breast or butt size
  • Sunken cheeks

It can also help remove scarring from accidents and injuries, address genetic defects, and even vision issues when the eyelids are part of the problem.

Cons of Plastic Surgery

Though plastic surgery can help you achieve the look you desire, there are some downsides to consider.

  • The cost: Insurance companies do not pay for elective procedures – and most plastic surgeries are considered elective. This means you’ll be paying for the procedure yourself and it can get quite expensive.
  • Results: In some cases, the results might not be what you want. Working with a respected provider like Dr. Joel Aronowitz can increase the likelihood of a favorable outcome, but there is always a risk.
  • Side effects and other risks: Surgery – regardless of the type – comes with risks, including potential infections and blood clots. Additionally, you can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort, as well as potential scars.
  • Long recovery: Your recovery time will depend on the specific procedure, as well as how well you follow your post-op care instructions. However, you can expect it to take anywhere from a few weeks to months. Not everyone has that kind of time to dedicate, especially when children and careers are involved.
  • Criticism: If you’re choosing plastic surgery because of other people’s opinions, you should consider that the criticism probably won’t stop afterward. Many people spend their lives judging others, and changing your appearance through surgery will simply give them something else to criticize you for.

Is Plastic Surgery for Me?

The choice is a personal one. Before making a final decision, though, consult with a skilled professional like Joel Aronowitz MD. Also, ensure you have the funds, the time necessary to recover, and proper expectations. It’s also important to be sure you are making the decision strictly for yourself – not because of other people’s opinions. This will help you remain confident, no matter what they do or say.
