    • Buffalo check ribbon
    • Black & white polka dot ribbon
  • Wire wreath (14”)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare Your Decorations:

Begin by cutting the ribbons from your St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun decoration, keeping them attached to the hat and legs. Remove the ribbon from the top of the hat for later use.

Prepare Your Decorations

2. Cut the Materials:

Use strong scissors or wire cutters to cut the pipe cleaners in half. Then, cut your deco mesh ribbon and tulle into 8” lengths:

  • 88 pieces of green tulle
  • 44 pieces of white tulle
  • 44 pieces of white deco mesh
  • Cut your thin buffalo check ribbon and polka dot ribbon into 6” lengths.

Cut the Materials

3. Form the Mesh Bundles:

Start with the white deco mesh ribbon, which naturally curls. Pinch a piece of green tulle and form an X with the white deco mesh. Place a 6” piece of thin ribbon on top and tie it all together with a pipe cleaner. Repeat this for all the pieces of white deco mesh and green tulle. Do the same for the white tulle and green tulle without the ribbon.

4. Attach the Mesh to the Wreath:

Now that all your bundles are prepared, it’s time to attach them to the wire wreath. There are four rings on the wreath. Start at the bottom, middle, and top rings and alternate between bundles with ribbons and those without. Twist the pipe cleaners tightly to secure each bundle in place.

5. Decorate with Cauldrons and Coins:

Fill a black cauldron with paper towels and hot glue gold coins inside it. You can add one or more cauldrons, depending on your design. Once the cauldron is ready, hot glue it to the wreath.

6. Paint the Shamrocks:

Use the white and green paint to decorate your shamrock wood cutouts. Dab on green paint with the end of your paintbrush to create a polka dot effect. Let the painted shamrocks dry before attaching them to the wreath.

7. Attach the Leprechaun Hat and Legs:

Hot glue the leprechaun hat and legs to the wreath, positioning the hat in the center and the legs hanging below it. Use the ribbons at the bottom of the hat to wrap around the wreath rings and secure them in place.

8. Make and Attach the Bow:

To create your bow, fold the wide buffalo check ribbon and green gingham ribbon into 6-8” folds, stacking them together. Tie them with a pipe cleaner and fluff out the bow. Attach the bow to the wreath using the pipe cleaner and trim any excess ribbon tails.

9. Create a Hanging Loop

Finally, use a piece of pipe cleaner to create a hanging loop on the back of your wreath. This will make it easy to hang your beautiful wreath on your door or wall.

5 Tips for the Perfect DIY St. Patrick’s Day Wreath

1. Prep Your Work Area

Cover your work surface with a vinyl tablecloth or sheet of kraft paper to keep your table from being damaged while crafting. I keep a Dollar store tablecloth for crafting that’s vinyl on top and felted on the back. It’s thick enough and doesn’t slide around.

2. Mix and Match Ribbon Patterns

Use a combination of solid, gingham, buffalo check, and polka dot ribbons for added texture and visual interest. This makes your wreath stand out and feel festive!

3. Personalize Your Wreath

Can’t find part of the supplies mentioned above? Use substitutes to make it unique. Get blank wood cutouts and paint your own. Add personal touches that suit your style.

4. Secure Everything Properly

Be sure to twist your pipe cleaners tightly to secure your mesh, ribbons, and decorations. This will keep everything in place, even if your wreath gets a little wind!

5. Change colors and embellishments

Use the same instructions for a deco mesh wreath, but use different colors and embellishments for other holidays. Bunny parts, basket cutout, or eggs for Easter, Green and Purple for Mardi Gras, and Red, White, and Blue for the 4th of July. The options are endless!

Conclusion

With this easy DIY St. Patrick’s Day wreath tutorial, you can create a whimsical and festive decoration for your home in no time. The Dollar Tree St. Patrick’s Day wreath supplies make this project affordable and fun. Whether you’re a first-time crafter or a wreath-making pro, this step-by-step guide ensures you’ll have a lucky wreath that brings good vibes to your front door! Happy crafting, and may the luck of the Irish be with you!
