A Safe Approach for Selling Your iPhone

A few months have passed since the launch of Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup. The lineup includes iPhone 12 pro max, 12 pro, 12 mini and the iPhone 12. You may need to sell your old iPhone to find some cash to upgrade to the new models. However, there are various things you need to consider before ditching your phone and waiting for the money.

A Safe Approach for Selling Your iPhone

Backup your data

Your phone contains personal data stored in the iCloud and the installed apps. You need to wipe the data before selling the device due to privacy concerns. You need to back up your data to prevent you from re-downloading the apps on your new device. Here is the step-by-step guide to preparing your phone for sale.

On your computer, you need to install the latest music app in case you are using a macOS or iTunes if you have a Windows PC. Connect your phone to the computer. It will show up on the iTunes or music app. Choose backup to iCloud or your computer. If you require your health and activity data to be backed up, create a password when prompted and check off encryptiPhone backup. Then click on Back up now.

If you want to back up from your iOS device, go to settings, click on your name and tap iCloud. Scroll to I cloud backup and tap on Back up now. When you pin iCloud backup to on, it will update your applications using iCloud if your Wi-Fi is on. When you get the new device, you can choose backup from iTunes or iCloud. Eventually, your new device will receive all the apps and settings from your old device.

Disable find my app

When Apple finds my app activated, it can sometimes make it hard for the new owner to activate the new phone. So you need to deactivate it before you sell your iPhone. Go to settings, then to your name>find my > find my iPhone and slide it off. You will be needed to input your Apple ID.

Sign out of iMessage

Earlier, iPhone users who have ditched their devices without logging out of IMessage have had a hard time receiving messages from other iPhone users. Messages that are sent to them mostly go to the old iPhone device. Today, the problem is fixed and only affects users that are switching to android. Though it’s a good idea to log it off just in case, it happens to you. So you need to go to your settings and message and toggle IMessage off.

Unpair AirPods

AirPods are fun and the only worry you might have is losing them. But you need to unpair them from your iPhone by placing them near your device. Go to settings, then Bluetooth and tap on the information found next to AirPods and select forget device. If you have any trouble figuring out how to reset your AirPods, you can find out how to here.

Unpair Apple watch

You need to unpair the watch from your iPhone. If you have one, save yourself a possible hassle later and delete it from the iPhone you are selling. Place them near each other and open your iPhone’s Apple Watch app. Go to the My Watch tab and, at the top of the page, pick your watch. Pick the data circle next to your watch you want to unpair, click the details circle. Tap Unpair and tap Apple Watch to confirm, which can enable you to enter a password for yourApple ID.

Sign out of iCloud

Don’t let your data snoop on anyone. Use Settings > General > Reset > Delete All Content and Settings to wipe your handset and accept all subsequent prompts. Your iCloud password is essential since it houses all your personal data.

Remove your SIM card.

In most situations, you can only deactivate your mobile phone service on the unit and trade it in with the SIM card intact. But that SIM card is your phone number repository, various security data bits, and all the information required for billing. It identifies you, your phone, and a great deal of your phone activity. So before selling your phone, you might want to delete it. Luckily, it’s easy. On your handset, find the SIM ejector (for most models, it’s on the right side), then insert a paper clip before the tray pops out. Remove the SIM card and your phone is ready for shipping. Then you need to remove the device from the list of trusted devices.

Conclusion

After finishing the above process, you can find a place to sell your device and make a few dollars. You can find a few marketplaces on the internet that require you to disclose your iPhone’s condition and they will offer you different prices for your device according to its condition. The buyback services enable you to find the best deal for your old phone, which adds you some cash for a new iPhone.
