Can I Have a Nice Kitchen if I Can’t Cook?

Can I Have a Nice Kitchen if I Can't Cook?

Cooking is an essential skill everyone should be a little familiar with, but it’s understandable if you don’t. In fact, a 2013 study conducted by Tufts University found that 28 percent of Americans didn’t know how to cook. Further, another 25 percent reported that they chose not to cook because they didn’t want to deal with cleanup, while 21 percent said they just didn’t have the time. Still, not knowing how to cook shouldn’t prevent you from having a luxury modern kitchen design.

While the study had a relatively small sample size of 1,087 participants, there’s still some truth that a majority of Americans either can’t cook or choose not to cook due to other factors. Busy careers, packed schedules, children, household chores, and family obligations can often get in the way of a home-cooked meal, leaving many to skip cooking altogether in favor of eating out. Alternatively, some people who have the time and energy to cook may simply lack the knowledge, which can feel insurmountable and loom over a person as they attempt to cook.

Why You Should Stil Have a Nice Kitchen if You Can’t Cook

Life often gets in the way of cooking, but that shouldn’t prevent you from having a nice, professionally-designed kitchen. A nice kitchen can add a lot to the interior of a home, and it serves as the de facto hang-out spot for guests. Also, while you may not cook, your partner, or future partner, may be a wiz in the kitchen. These are a few reasons why you may want a nice kitchen. Below are some additional reasons.

Someone Else May Want To Use the Kitchen

Though you may be lacking in the cooking department, there are likely others in your life that can whip up a mean plate. In the study mentioned above, it was found that over half of all participants didn’t cook because their partner cooked instead. However, if you or your partner don’t cook, family, friends, and even catering companies may need to use your kitchen if you ever decide to throw a party. In that scenario, you’ll want a nice, well-equipped kitchen that will allow your guests to cook something delicious.

You Want To Learn To Cook in the Future

It’s never too late to learn how to cook. It’s a life skill that can be picked up with relative ease whether you’re thirteen or 43. Thanks to the food media landscape, cooking has been democratized to the point that every recipe and technique can be found either in books, TV shows, or online.

When you decide it’s time to learn how to cook, as many did during the pandemic, it’ll be a feasible project if you already have a nice kitchen with all the equipment you need. If you don’t have a working kitchen, you may stop learning to cook before you even fry your first egg.

If You’re Using Your House for Airbnb

Putting up your house for Airbnb can be a great way to earn passive income, especially if it’s your second property or if you’re out of the country for an extended period. Airbnb guests may only use your place to crash for the night, but there are many guests who may want to spend the night in and have a home-cooked dinner. It’s common for an Airbnb to have a well-equipped kitchen for this exact reason, and many guests consider it a perk they’re willing to pay extra for. If you have a nice kitchen, you could charge higher prices on Airbnb, and you’re more likely to get good reviews.

If You’re Selling Your House

You may not be thinking about selling your house now, but you may change your mind at any moment, leaving you almost no time to fix up the kitchen. An outdated or poorly-designed kitchen that doesn’t match the aesthetics of the rest of your home won’t prevent you from selling your house, but it may hurt the sale price. On the other hand, having a nice kitchen in your home may increase the selling price, especially if you have features like a tile backsplash, custom cabinetry, or cutting-edge appliances.

Nice Kitchens Are Worth Having

These are just a few reasons why it’s still worth having a nice kitchen. Whether you can’t cook or choose not to because you can’t find the time, a nice kitchen can still serve a purpose when you have guests or if you plan to sell your house. Putting that aside, a nice kitchen simply ties a home’s interior together. Even if you rarely fire up the stove, you won’t have to put up with an eyesore of a kitchen.

For many homes, the kitchen is the lifeblood. It’s a place for eating and making food as much as it is a place for gathering and making memories. Don’t let something like a lack of cooking knowledge stop you from enjoying a home with a vibrant kitchen.
