Designing The Perfect Laundry Room For Your Home

We don’t think of it much, but the laundry is one of the home’s most important places. After all, we have to wear clothes and use towels daily, so the laundry fulfills the vital function of keeping all of those clean! In most cases the laundry room is an afterthought, if it is even a room at all! Crammed into a large closet, or the corner of the garage, the essential machinery that keeps us well-kept and clean just doesn’t get the respect it deserves!

Designing The Perfect Laundry Room For Your Home

But, suppose that you had the chance to install a perfect laundry room, how would you design it? We are here with some ideas on that subject!

The Machines

Your choice of washer and dryer will depend on the size of the area you have to work with as well as the amount of laundry you need to do daily. If you are single or have a small space, then go with a stacked front-loader system that can fit just about anywhere, even a closet! If you have a family then you will need to make room for big free-standing machines that can handle heavy loads, and withstand a lot of use and abuse!

Another often overlooked laundry room component that will serve you well is a big, deep sink! If you have tough stains or an item that needs extra cleaning before it goes in the washer, this is the place to handle that! When it’s time to install all of these just ring up a plumber in Maryland for professional, friendly service and you will be washing and drying in no time! One important thing to keep in mind is don’t go cheap on these important machines, make an investment in quality products that are built to last!

The Layout

We are going to assume that you have a dedicated room with enough space to create a proper laundry that fits your needs. You can divide your laundry room into the following zones:

  • Storage – This is where you keep the soap, brushes, detergent, dryer sheets, and other useful items for the laundry. The cabinets can be placed above the sink for easy access.
  • Sorting – This is a counter space beside the sink where you can sort the dirty clothes into groups that will be washed together.
  • Sink – Place this between the sorting station and the washer.
  • Washing & Drying – Washer first, then dryer- there is an order to things here!
  • Ironing & Folding – This countertop is beside the dryer, just pull the clean, dry clothes out and go to work on them here!
  • Hanging – Situated beside the folding table, this can either be a built-in closet-style hanging bar or a portable free-standing rack.

Use these zones as your map to an easy-to-use laundry room!

It’s always important to follow the Australian Government’s construction codes (or the codes where you live) when performing major renovations to your home. Now you can enjoy washing and drying in your perfect laundry room!
