Supplies for DIY Beehive Decoration:

  • Large Wine Glass (Dollar Tree)
  • Jute Rope (6mm Wide)
  • Black Chalk Paint
  • Yellow Floral Pick (Hobby Lobby or the Sunflower pick linked below includes some yellow flowers)
  • Sunflower Floral Pick (Amazon or Dollar Tree)
  • Bee Buttons

Supplies for DIY Beehive Decoration

Tools:

  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Paint Brush
  • Wire Cutters

Step 1:

Wrap the wine glass with Sisal Rope. Start wrapping at the lip of the glass. Add a small strip of hot glue and press the rope on top. Continue the same process around the entire glass, stem, and base. As I laid the rope over the glue, I slid it close to the previous wrap to avoid gaps between the wraps.

Originally, I stopped adding the rope just under the lip of the wine glass base. But then I decided it looked better by adding one more wrap of the rope to cover all the glass. This last wrap will protrude slightly above the base of the glass, leaving none of the glassware visible.

Step 2:

Make the Beehive Opening. Cut two 7 1/2-inch pieces of Sisal Rope. Make each piece into a circle by hot gluing the ends together. A small dab will hold the rope ends together. I suggest using silicone fingertips when holding the ends of the rope together. Hold ends together for 20-30 seconds, until set. Next, hot glue the two circles together, one on top of the other. Hot glue this double rope circle to the wine glass.

Step 3:

Paint the inside of the circle opening with black paint. Paint slowly around the inside edges of the rope circle and then paint the middle.

Step 4:

Use wire cutters to snip small sprigs of yellow flowers and greenery. Pull off one sunflower from your sunflower bunch. Gauge the best flower placement and hot glue the flowers to the rope on the glass. I added leaves from my sunflower pick to the back of the sunflower to cover up the floral stems for a more finished look in case the backside of the glass is visible when displayed.

Step 5:

Hot glue the Bee Buttons around the glass. Add a flameless pillar candle to display.
