DIY House Painting Tips From The Pros

Painting your house can be a daunting task. But with the help of some professional tips, it can be a breeze. There are some basic tips to get you started like choosing the right paint, using painter’s tape, and starting with the smaller rooms first. However, to ensure everything goes great you will have to follow these tips and you’ll have a freshly painted house in no time!

DIY House Painting Tips From The Pros

1 – Choose the right type of paint

If you’re looking for house paint, there are several factors to consider when choosing which kind of paint would be best. According to Painters Care, there are a variety of different types of paint to choose from. This is also depending on where this paint is going to go, ie. is it interior for your bathroom, or exterior for your roof tiles, etc. Low-odor paints are becoming more popular because they reduce the fumes that come along with painting your house. Latex or acrylic paints tend to emit less vapor than oil-based ones, but if you’re using oil paint, be sure to pick up an industrial respirator mask. It is also important to pay close attention to the care tips, tricks, and instructions. These typically indicate things such as whether the paint should be used in a well-ventilated area outside or if there are any special precautions you need to take.

2 – Use Painters Tape

When painting, you’ll want to tape windows and doors. This will seal them off from the paint so that they’re not stained, giving you a crisp and clean finished product. For example, you want to tape off windows with a fresh coat of paint so that the old color doesn’t leach through when the new paint is applied. Don’t look for the cheapest tape you can find, but rather quality painter’s tape that won’t budge and will leave a lasting clean line.

3 – Begin With the Smaller Areas

A common mistake that many people make while painting is, to begin with, the largest and most daunting rooms, such as a living room or kitchen. However, it is often best, to begin with, the smaller rooms, such as a bathroom or bedrooms. This allows you to practice with your paintbrush before moving onto the larger rooms. Also, if you make any mistakes during your smaller painting session, it is much easier to fix them before continuing on to more complex areas.

4 – Use the Right Tools

There are certain types of paint brushes that are better than others. It is important to know which kind you should be using. For example, painting the exterior – what tools should you use? The appropriate tools will ensure that you’re able to deliver the best-looking finished product. Check out this blog on how to choose the perfect paintbrush for your DIY house painting project.

Now that you know how to choose the right paint, use painter’s tape, and start with smaller rooms first, your house should be pain-free in no time. The key is knowing which tools are best for each type of surface or room. You’ll also want to consider whether it will be interior or exterior painting before making any final decisions about what kind of paint you need. Choosing the wrong paint can lead to peeling walls and bubbles on the finished product.
