For First Time Homeowners: Tips to Manage Natural Light in Family Rooms

Natural light is touted to be the number one attribute people need in their family homes for most first-time homeowners. A survey mentions 26 percent of the respondents believed that natural light was the ‘must-have’ feature in a home. Many homeowners believe that poor natural lighting makes them feel unhappy with the interiors’ look and feel.

For First Time Homeowners: Tips to Manage Natural Light in Family Rooms

Scientists have revealed that exposure to daylight is connected intrinsically to personal wellbeing and better moods. Natural light also gives more space and is deemed better than artificial light. Natural light cannot be recreated and can undoubtedly improve serotonin levels that make every human feel good about it all!

Here are some tips for managing natural light in family homes:

The right flooring

With the right flooring options, any space can be transformed into perfect reflectors for bouncing light in any internal room angle. Choose wooden or ceramic floors that feature a polished finish to reflect light better in these rooms. If you prefer carpets in your space, then opt for lighter shades.

Choose Greenery

The environment has an immediate impact on any house. Choose to have a beautiful garden outside your home that can help you regulate the light levels within your home. Maintain your garden systematically and trim down trees and bushes periodically. Use climbers and creepers on your balcony space or near your patio to let them grow on windows too.

Clean your windows

Clean your windows and glass doors so that your internal spaces can get as much light as possible. With proper cleaning material for the glass panes and other transparent elements, you can get your home to be reflective of outside light for a major part of the day.

Use Glass tiles

Glass tiles can bounce off the light in your kitchen or the bathroom. Choose highly glossy ceramic tiles for a nearly equal reflective effect. For high light reflection, choose the subway tile for your living room, making a grander impression compared to any other materials. Metallic backsplash tiles can reflect light even more than glass tiles.

Paint Your Overhangs

Your home’s interiors seldom could consist of overhangs or eaves that provide security from bad weather strikes, but they could impede natural light coming in on bright, sunny days. The remedy to this scenario is to paint the overhangs white or install a white aluminum or vinyl surface that reflects more light into the areas.

Install Unique Blinds

You could accommodate blinds on your windows so that you can pull them up or down if you want to bring in light or restrict the visibility of internal spaces. Either way, the blinds can give a new dimension to the décor while adding utility to space to your living room organization. Some remote-controlled blinds can even add more style and sophistication to space while helping you control them from any side of the room.

Install Larger Windows

Choose the new windows to be big enough so that the ventilation and bright light can enter your internal spaces in spades. Boost natural illumination utilizing new trends in window manufacturing to expose glass more than ever. Use bay windows to make a strong impact.

Add Skylights

Skylights bring light into your home indirectly through several sizes and configurations. They are usually used in bathrooms and in some family rooms wherein a hole in the roof could transparently bring in natural light into the house. Install the skylight on the roof perfectly without letting it leak. They work both in sunlight and moonlight effectively.
