If you’re bored of your mundane looking home but can’t afford to go home shopping – or maybe you don’t want to. – Maybe you have so many magical memories in this home, you’d never want to leave – you just want to figure out a way of changing it up so it suits you, as a pose to holding you back in those dated eras.
Change is never an easy thing, but sometimes it’s necessary in order to grow as a person. The vibe of your home really makes a huge difference on you as a person – that’s the whole point. You get your own little (or big) den to decorate yourself and call it your home. Then you can invite your favorite people around and enjoy spending time with them hosting dinner parties, barbecues in the summer, or movie nights in with all your favorite snacks.
So how do you go about reinventing your home so it reflects you and your vibe? Here are a few examples of some of the best styles, and how you can recreate them.
Popular Home Styles
Mediterranean style houses give you that warm summers nights feel of being in the south of France or Spain. They usually work on extending the house as much as they can by adding some form of patio or veranda, which makes the perfect place to host barbecues. They have a lot of brickwork on the outside of the house used with the best slabs and rocks strategically placed together to create a beautiful structure.
Consider having a few feature walls around your home that show off bare rock. If you don’t already have any exposed, you can either have your own built, or use the likes of wallpaper. There are many 3d prints that you can have access to that replicate real things, so you create the illusion of a rock wall, without actually having one. You can also get some shutters over your windows which is very European. They can come in all sorts of colours and materials, but usually made out of wood, and essentially they not only look nice, but they control the heat and airflow to your home depending on when you open them, and when you close them.
Bungalows are houses that are all on one level, so there are no stairs or different floors to it. They usually have a cottage style vibe that is quite quiet and relaxed in the middle of nowhere. The look can vary depending on where you are and the vibe you’re going for, so it really is down to the owner.
Bungalows can either be open plan, or have their own separate rooms. Wood is a go-to with the traditional styles, so the more you see of it, the better. Don’t worry about trying to hide any exposed beams, as these are a good feature. If anything, give them a lick of varnish to make them pop even more. They are also known for having a welcoming curb appeal, so make sure the front garden is always kept looking pretty. Trim the lawn so it’s always an appropriate length, remove the weeds so it doesn’t apply any mess to the area, and plant some cute flowers to enhance its beauty and provide something stimulating to the senses.
A penthouse tends to be that luxury home you save up for when you go on holiday so you can have the absolute best accommodation to stay in. But what about if you brought that magic and excitement back and styled your home that way? Penthouses are known for their parties, they are usually on the highest floor of an apartment building or hotel, and only the VIP get to experience the nightlife. But there is no reason that you can’t incorporate bits and pieces into your own home.
First, you will want to get rid of all the clutter, and they always tend to have a modern simplistic look about them, and you can’t do that if you have things lying all over the place. Open space is key, so if you want to go all out, then think about opening the area up by knocking a few walls down so rather than having a separate living room and kitchen, they are combined. And of course, you mustn’t forget the bar. Every penthouse needs to have a place where you can pull up a fancy stall and enjoy an exotic cocktail with your friends.
Cabins are a lovely style that is all about the wood. They tend to be seen in the middle of woods and forests because they are self-sustainable and have all that they need in their surrounding areas, that’s why they tend to be used when going on holiday in the countryside.
Create that homely vibe with a nice open fire – regardless of whether you only use it in the winter, it looks beautiful all year round. If you have a choice of any material within the house, then it will have to be wood. Open wooden floors with a nice fluffy rug in the center of the room. Wooden furniture – the more unique, the better. Shop around your local charity shops for a good bargain, or find handmade gems in markets around your area. Gardens tend to be rather simple with a lot of greenery. If you don’t already have any trees, think about planting one or two – it doesn’t have to be huge, but it definitely gives it a nice overall touch.
Now you have some ideas, think about what kind of vibe you want to apply to your home. You can be as subtle, or as over the top as you want to be. Remember that you can essentially do whatever you want. If you feel like painting the outside of your home lime green, then so be it. Don’t ever let anyone tell you the right or wrong way. You could even incorporate multiple styles in one, or scatter them around the rooms that you have to work with.
