How To Extend The Life Of Your Garage Door

How To Extend The Life Of Your Garage Door

Now that you have a garage door, your home is secure and you can easily get in and out with that click of your remote control, life is good right?  Well, yes in a sense, but you can’t be resting on your laurels and hope everything will stay that way.

You need to be on top of everything and for that you will need to know the top ways to extend the life of your garage door.  To assist you with this task, A1Garage.com is open 24/7 to serve you in Vancouver, WA.

Check Hardware

The first thing that you want to do is check your hardware.  Over time your hardware will have the stress of the weather placed upon it such as heat in the summer, cold in the winter and fluctuating weather patterns all year round.  Also, depending on how often you open the garage door will determine its wear and tear as well as drying out.

If you use your garage door on a daily basis it may cause extra stress on the hardware.  If on the other hand you don’t use it, then it might loosen up or the tension may become lax.  It is important that you have an even balance of use and rest.

Lubricate

You will want to ensure that moisture and dust, debris and other contaminants are removed from your doors and hardware.  You will also want to lubricate your hardware every year.  Placing a few drops of oil or grease on the working parts will ensure that they work effectively.  Before lubricating however, make sure that you first read the manufacturer’s instructions and details.

Test

You want to test your doors on a regular basis.  You want to make sure that they open and close easily, that they don’t hang up and the security sensor that prevents the door from closing on a child or animal is working well.  If you don’t test your equipment on a regular basis you can’t be assured that it will work when you need it to or in the manner it was designed.

For those starting out with a garage door these are the most basic and core things that you will want to do.  From there you will want to ensure that your doors have a good sealant and paint on them.  If you have glass that is chipped or if the doors become warped, then you will want to look at it and address them as quickly as possible.

Being vigilant is the name of the game.  Once you drop your guard or if you don’t follow through with projects or tasks you know need to be done, then these problems can build up and cause more problems. Of course if that happens, there are companies available around the clock to assist you.

Create a Schedule

To ensure that your garage door is maintained, set a schedule with specific tasks that need to be completed.  If you do this and follow it, then you will see that issues that may get away from you are resolved before you even need to worry about them.
