How To Make Hair Conditioner For Your Type Of Hair

As people learn more about the chemicals in consumer beauty products, they’re looking for alternatives as a way to promote their long-term health. Many natural shampoos and conditioners are costly, making them inaccessible for the average consumer. That’s where DIY solutions come in.

If you know the problems with your hair and what’s causing them, you can make your own conditioner without any harsh chemicals and at a fraction of the cost of salon products.

Know Your Hair Needs

Before you can determine what ingredients to use in your natural conditioner, you need to know what your hair needs. If you have straight, limp hair you’ll want to avoid weighing it down further. Curly, dry hair will need more hydration. Once you determine what your hair needs you can choose a DIY conditioner to nourish your locks.

Dry, Brittle Hair

If you have dry, brittle hair, it likely needs some deep nourishment. Hair can become dry and brittle from environmental impacts, chemicals, and heat. Here are some of the best DIY conditioners for dry, brittle hair.

Argan Oil Conditioner

Argan oil is a natural hydrant derived from the seed of the Moroccan argan tree. Argan oil can be used on its own to rehydrate ends between conditioner applications as well as an ingredient in DIY shampoos and conditioners when the pure form is purchased from the Argan Oil Shop.

For this conditioner, you will need:

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp shea butter
  • 1 tsp argan oil

To make argan oil conditioner, mix one the coconut oil and shea butter. Warm in the microwave until it becomes a liquid and add the argan oil. Mix using a whisk or an electric beater. Apply to dry hair and comb through. Let the conditioner sit for 30 minutes and rinse.

Egg and Oil Conditioner

Eggs are full of nutrients that are great for hair, particularly in the yolk. By mixing eggs with nourishing olive oil, you can condition your hair quickly and naturally in the shower for a smooth, moisture-locked finish.

For this conditioner, you will need:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup water

Blend the ingredients together and apply in the shower after shampooing. Rinse thoroughly with cool water– this is especially important as hot water can cook the egg in your hair.

Oily Hair

There are multiple causes for oily hair. Stripping the hair of natural oils can cause an overproduction of oil to compensate. It can also be caused by an imbalance in the body. Here are two great treatments for oily hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Rather than bogging your hair down with product, use apple cider vinegar to add balance and restore the natural shine.

For this conditioner, you will need:

  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water

Mix the vinegar and water together. After shampooing, pour the mixture over your hair. Do not rinse any further.

Aloe and Lemon

Aloe isn’t just for treating sunburns; it’s great for hair care as well.

For this conditioner, you will need:

  • ½ cup aloe vera juice
  • ½ cup lemon juice

Mix the aloe and lemon juices together. After shampooing, pour the mixture over your hair– rinse and style as usual.

Your roots need one treatment while your ends need another. If you’re completely replacing salon products, your hair may go through an adjustment period that causes it to be extra dry or oily. Stay the course and you’ll have beautiful, chemical-free hair in no time.
