How To Make Staircases Less Slippery

How To Make Staircases Less Slippery

Sometimes in the past, you might have encountered falls and trips down a stair. People repeatedly lose their balance on slippery stairs and on uneven surfaces.

Though they might not have been serious accidents, you should know that irrespective of the size and height of your stairs, it can be a severe accident waiting to happen, especially if your stairs are slippery.

With this, you need to ensure that the stairs in your home or workplace are made to have tractions and grip. There are several means that you can use to remedy slippery stairs.

Read on to find out some of the methods for this.

Install grip strip treads

Anti-slip treads are an effective way to prevent slips. They do this by adding roughness to the surface of your stairs. The texture provides friction that acids slip but is comfortable on your feet.

However, they can be challenging to notice and are also transparent unless you make a conscious effort to seek them out. So if you intend to make your stairs less slippery, then you can buy anti slip treads for stairs. They are reusable, long-lasting, and tough.

Moreover, they are also resistant to pressure washing, weather resistance, salting, shoveling, ripping, or peeling. In addition, these anito slip treads are slotted and pre-punched, so you don’t need to drill them in.

Add anti-slip floor finish

Anti-slip floor finish is another way to protect yourself from slippery stairs. They can do this without changing your stairs’ natural appearance and revealing your stair beauty. There are several forms of anti-slip finches. They could be water or oil-based, based on your preference.

A good option would be to use an aluminum oxide floor finish to prevent wooden staircase deterioration. Such engineered floor finish can provide moisture resistance and maximum grip and are excellent for homes with younger children.

Add carpets

To avoid trips and slips, you can add carpet to your stairs. But, you should adequately install it since not doing so might increase the risk of accidents.

A good option is to install carpet treads. They are not only soft but also provide grip and protect your children from coarse grit.

An added advantage is that they can be washed with machines and moved without wasting time. In addition, they won’t damage the wood finish underneath since they don’t need sticky adhesives to work.

Add stair runners

Stair runners also provide safety against slippery stairs. They are also aesthetic and can be found in several designs and textures. Stair runners can run the whole length of your stairs, and they are often seen in big hotels and used as red carpets when descending a grand wood staircase.

Keep your stairs clean

Debris and dust could lead to potential slipping hazards on your stairs. Though wood is a naturally rough texture, waxes and varnishes can make a slippery surface on your stairs. So, you must sweep regularly and mop your stairs to remove grimes.

That’s A Wrap

People don’t usually see their stairs as a safety hazard, but they can be a potentially dangerous area in a home or a workplace. There are reports of several serious accidents that color due to slippery stairs.

So, it would be best if you didn’t neglect to make your stairs less slippery. Ensure you use the tip above to protect your home from such accidents.
