How You Can Give Decking a Glow Up

How You Can Give Decking a Glow Up

When your decking or decked area is exposed to the elements (that are sometimes unpredictable) you can find that it greatly impacts how your decking looks and feels. You can recreate the much-loved space by giving your decking (or decked area) a glow-up. You can inject new life into the area you love and enjoy.

Clean, Refresh, and Restain

To begin the process, you want to focus on cleaning and refreshing decking where you can. Dirt, grime, and even moss can impact how decking looks and feels. Getting a pressure wash on your decking may be good to tackle that extreme dirt. However, you may find that a stiff brush and bucket of soapy water do the trick as well. When cleaning your deck, ensure you do so in milder weather as this gives it plenty of time to dry. Once the decking is clean, it is time to refresh those damaged or broken pieces. When all decking is refreshed, you can then go ahead with restaining.

Get Organized

Now that your decking looks as good as new (if not better), it is time to focus on getting organized. On your decking or decked area, you will find that you have lots of items you need or use on a regular basis. However, you will find that you do not want these items loose, as they will get damaged or lost. Keeping these items organized, safe, and ready to use is important. Ideas for organizing your deck or patio will help you establish what storage solutions you should look at. For instance, you might find a shed ideal, or you may find that storage units or benches fit better into your space. Clutter can leave your decking area looking messy; to avoid this, you must ensure everything has its place.

Add New Furniture

The furniture that you are using on your decking (or decked areas) may be letting down how the whole area feels. To combat this, you may need to look at adding new furniture. You may want to look at adding rustic furniture, or you may be looking at adding modern rattan furniture that is more in keeping with the rest of your home. When you are looking at adding new furniture, always try and visualize how it will look. Make sure it is not too small or big for the area.

Introduce New Lighting

Decked areas or decking can look beautiful in the daytime, and natural light. They can also look good in the evening too. You can give your decking a glow-up by adding additional/new lighting. Soft and subtle lighting, such as fairy lights, will give your decking a relaxed feel and ensure it is used on summer evenings and those warmer days. When you are looking at introducing new lighting, look at what you want to use and where. For example, are you going to focus on battery-powered lights, or will you install new electrics?
