How Your Dog Speaks Through Body Language

04/15/19 | Pets

As dog owners, we sometimes wish that our pets could talk to us. It would make life so easy, considering they would air out their views on how we handle them or the love they have for us. Can you imagine having a bad day at work, only to get home and get a love message from your pup? Reminding you of how great you are, or how he feels about you? I am sure the world would have fewer casualties of depressions.

However, did you know that your dog still tries to communicate with you? Though it may not be in your language, there are several ways that he tries to get in touch with you. Nevertheless, we will never appreciate this until we learn their body language. You have to remember that you need to look at his whole body, his language, and also the environment or situation for you to get a bigger picture of what he wants you to know. Check out below.

Understanding Your Dog’s Body Language

Fearful Communication

When your pup is afraid, he will react to this through his whole body. In most instances, he may lick his mouth or yawn despite being full, tuck his tail between his hind legs, and put his ears down. If the condition is intense, he may tremble and avoid eye contact with the master. In addition to this, you might find out that he avoids eating or having physical contact with the people who induce fear in him. If the condition persists, your pup might turn out aggressive in the presence of his perpetrators.

Confident

A confident dog behaves like a human being. He will stand straight with his head held up high. His eyes appear bright as he wags his tail slowly. As for the mouth, it is opened slightly and wholly relaxed. Your pup seems to enjoy the environment despite the situation.

Happy

A happy dog possesses similar traits with that of a confident pup. In addition to this, he wags the tail in a more relaxed manner. He is more friendly and content when compared to other days.

Playful

A playful pup is more than happy. He has brighter eyes and wags his tail more rapidly. In addition to this, he may jump up and down or run around in no particular direction. You will often see his front legs stretched forward, ears held up high. This is an invitation to play, and he hopes you will respond positively. You can learn how to make your dog love you through such plays since he gets more attached to you.

Aggressive

An aggressive dog usually starts with signs of a frightened or anxious pup. If this feeling persists, he may become angry at anyone who intrudes in his space. He plants his feet firmly on the ground in an attempt to take over his territory. The eyes appear sharp and small, and more so they seem to be filled with rage. The tail is held straight up as it tends to focus on the source of aggression. He may also show his bare teeth, growl, or bark threateningly. If you happen to come across such a dog in this position, you get away from him cautiously, but never run.

Submissive

In most instances, a dog that shows submissive behavior tends to lie on its back. He puts himself in this position to prove that he is not a threat to others. This kind of behavior is commonly exhibited around people and other dogs. In some instances, this is a sign to play with others.

Your pup speaks to you, not through barking, but the postures he puts on. Reading them may make your life interesting as you will be in a better situation to handle him. Familiarize yourself with his language to make him feel wanted even more.
