Sweet potato fries are a perfect side dish with sandwiches and burgers. Whenever we eat out for burgers, I look for them on the menu. My husband and daughter both know I’m going get some if the restaurant offers them. So I decided to bring that favorite home with this delicious and easy recipe. Don’t they look yummy with the pulled BBQ pork slider?
White Sweet Potato Fries?
Sweet potatoes are usually easy to recognize. They have a gorgeous deep orange color that has become synonymous with sweet, delicious flavor. I was surprised when I peeled this batch and found myself looking at pale yellow flesh instead.
Did you know not all sweet potatoes are orange inside? Some varieties, like those pictured here, have a light yellow or almost white color instead. Even though, they look a bit like regular white potatoes than their orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, they don’t taste anything like a white potato.
However, they aren’t identical to their orange counterparts, either. White sweet potatoes aren’t as sweet and have more starch than the more orange sweet potatoes. Fortunately, they are absolutely wonderful when baked until crispy for these fries!
Fun Facts about Sweet Potatoes
