Simple Modern Farmhouse Living Room Ideas

Spread the love

If you love modern farmhouse decor like me, you might have thought of adding a little (or a lot) of it to your living room. Creating a modern farmhouse living room isn't as difficult as you might think. With a few simple changes and tweaks to your room, you can give it that farmhouse look that's so popular.

When I think of farmhouse style, I think of Joanna Gains from Fixer Upper fame. I think she had a hand in bringing the farmhouse look back and making it so popular. Not only that, but showing people that anyone can achieve that look and you don't have to live in the country and on a farm to do so!

Here are some Simple Modern Farmhouse Living Room Ideas that will help you pull off a farmhouse vibe in your own home.

Use Light Colors

Lots of whites and greys. But don't be afraid to include black and even green or blue. Whether you're talking paint, furniture or rug ideas, this color scheme works in farmhouse decorating.

Natural Elements

Metal, wood, and even stone elements go wonderfully in a modern farmhouse living room. From the mantle to coffee, end and entry tables, consider these materials to give your room that vibe.

Mix New with Old

Antiques and vintage pieces go perfect in a farmhouse home. To me, that's what incorporates much of the farmhouse feel is having a few older items. You really can't go wrong here.

Some items do well as new, like your sofa. But tables, cabinets, and dressers make great additions as antiques.

Reclaimed Furniture

This is ideal for a modern farmhouse living room, don't let the ‘modern' name throw you. Most pieces, even if they're older, can be spruced up and refinished to give them the look you want . Some look great with imperfections and simply need cleaned up. Think unique pieces or items made with reclaimed materials like turning an old bed into a bench or dresser into a kitchen island.

Farmhouse Wall Decor

There are so many options when it comes to modern farmhouse wall decor for your living room, it really is overwhelming. Popular options are art work, word signs, mirrors, windmills  and arches. Creating a gallery wall is a very popular option and one you will find in many farmhouse living rooms today.

Modern Farmhouse Mantel Decor

Candle sticks, faux greenery, a vintage clock, and vases are just a few things you can put on your living room mantle. If that's where your TV goes, no worries, some of these are very small and can be put beside the TV if you wish. A large piece of art is another good option.

Farmhouse Shelves

No mantle? No problem! Farmhouse shelves are all the rage, and you can add any of the decor items mentioned above to a shelf as well. Reclaimed wood shelves are popular, as are wood and metal combinations. Don't feel like you have to load down every shelf with lots items. Less is more.

Coffee Table Decor

Trays and books are trendy pieces that go well in a modern farmhouse living room. Also, consider candles, rustic hurricane candle holders,  and knick knacks as items that will help achieve the look you're going for. Or go with a dish filled with pinecones or balls covered with organic material.

Throw Pillows

If you're creating a farmhouse living room, you have to have throw pillows! I absolutely love throw pillows and love changing them out with every season. Here's a decorating tip: If you don't have the storage space or simply don't want to keep buying different pillows, consider getting pillow covers! They take up way less space to store, and you can switch them out as often as you wish and use the exact same pillows. They are amazing and one of my favorite decorating tricks!

Most of these tips are relatively easy to pull off and won't break the bank, either. We hope these simple modern farmhouse living room ideas will be helpful in giving your living room the farmhouse vibe you've been wanting! After your living room is finished you might just keep going with into your kitchen and bedrooms!
