You've heard it over and over, we are living in strange times. Many are experiencing working at home for the first time. Everyone is living a new lifestyle of spending much of their time in their homes. That combines stress with boredom, resulting in some binge TV and eating a lot more “goodies”. But, that name is very deceiving. Goodies may taste good, but they aren't good for our bodies when we eat too much. You may already be realizing that you need help to take control of your eating habits. Well, I found something that has helped me. I'd like to share with you why Noom is my go to source for support to improve my eating habits and overall health.

My Lifelong Journey with Weight Gain

I have never been the skinny girl. Since childhood I have been full figure. Not that I am a binge eater. Instead, the weight has crept up the scale over my adult life. A pound and pound there over the past 30'some years. All through that time, I cycled through stages: a desire to be thinner, try a diet, quickly fail the diet, and back to my old eating habits. That in addition to the cycle, I have never been very physically active. Sports: no. Exercise: no. My will is weak when it came to losing weight or changing my eating and exercise habits. I needed help.

My Introduction to Noom

After trying another diet program I wasn't sure how Noom would help me. But, I wanted to give a try and see if would be my chance to create new eating and exercise habits. So, I installed the App on my phone and began following the daily lessons and keeping a record of what I ate. Here is what is has taught me:

It's like having a group of dietitians and therapists at your fingertips. You learn how to change your mindset about food. You learn why you do what you do about food. It's not meant to be trendy or a fad like diets can be. It's designed to help you develop lifelong, healthy habits. The content shared to you daily is written by people with backgrounds in nutrition, exercise science and psychology.

Tracking food and activity is made easy.

The catalog lets you search for food products. Even when I made dinner dishes, I enter in the food ingredients and portion them for my serving. It's been very helpful helping me to see how many calories I eating. It, also, analyzes what you eat in three categories and helps you to see where your diet is lacking or overdoing it. I could see how much my diet was lacking in fruit and veggies and was overdoing high carb foods.

It makes me more aware of needs to move around more. I am walking more and taking breaks during the day to walk around. I try to spend time each doing something physical. I'll be improving on this area with a treadmill routine until up to the 30 minutes of daily exercise. By the way, I didn't know until I had Noom that you should have 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

Helps me keep track of my blood glucose.

I was diagnosed pre-diabetic. That was my wake up call telling me I needed to make some changes on how I was living. Hence, my getting Noom. I like that the Noom App lets me keep a diary of my blood glucose numbers. There is a place to record blood pressure and record your weight, too.

You have support at your fingertips.

A coach is right there when you need them. They check in with you when you miss logging in. After using Noom for 3 weeks, you are assigned a group and group coach. Receive notifications to motivate you when you're feeling weak.

Since joining Noom, I feel I have support and training to take control over my eating habits. I can make better choices in the foods I choose. My mindset is changing to healthier attitude about food and exercise. And I can keep my food diary, exercise, support, and blood glucose records all in one handy place on my phone.
