Thanksgiving Turkey Pretzel Rods Recipe
Ingredients:
- 12 pretzel rods
- 2 lbs Melting Chocolate/Candy Melts
- 24 Candy Eyes
- 108 pieces Candy Corn
Equipment:
- Wax Paper
- Double Boiler Pan or glass dish and saucepan
- Small Dishes for candies
- Spoon
Directions:
Begin by gathering your supplies and ingredients. Line your kitchen counter with wax paper.
Cut the yellow and white ends off of 12 candy corn pieces. You will need one for each pretzel turkey. Set aside the orange candy corn pieces.
Melt ½ lb of melting chocolate according to the package instructions. I prefer using a double boil pan method on the stove, but you can melt it in the microwave. You have to be extra careful not to overcook or burn the chocolate.
Use the backside of a spoon to smear 1 tsp of melted chocolate in a circle on the wax paper.
Quickly arrange candy corn (8 candy corn pieces per chocolate circle) on top of the chocolate circle, leaving room for the pretzel rod. Repeat until you have 12 feather sets for your 12 turkeys.
Melt ½ lb of melting chocolate and transfer to a heat-safe glass or mug. Dip pretzel rods in the chocolate, covering half of the rod. Use a butter knife to distress the chocolate so it looks turkey-like.
Place two eyes and a turkey beak on the pretzel rod. Allow to dry on wax paper. Repeat until you have finished preparing 12 pretzel turkey bodies.
Spoon 1 tsp of the remaining chocolate into the center of each feather set. Place the turkey body on top of the chocolate. Allow the chocolate turkey to dry completely then remove it from the wax paper.
FAQ’s
Should I melt the chocolate in the microwave or on the stove?
The chocolate melts more and more quickly over the stove as opposed to a possibly uneven melt when using the microwave. While you can use the microwave, stopping and stirring every 30 seconds, there’s a chance you may overcook and burn the chocolate. The same happens to candy melts. If you don’t have a double boiler pan, you can use a heat-proof glass measuring cup or dish that can fit inside a saucepan. Fill the saucepan with water just enough to melt the chocolate without bubbling over into the chocolate.
How many pretzel rods are in a 12oz bag?
1 package (12oz or 340g) pretzel rods – should be approximately 30 pretzel rods.
