The New Dog Owner Checklist

The New Dog Owner Checklist

The decision to get a new dog or puppy for your home is an extremely exciting one. However, before you rush out to your local adoption center or breeder, you need to ensure that you are fully prepared for your new arrival. So, in this blog post, we are going to provide you with a quick checklist that details a few of the most important items which you simply must get to make sure that your pooch gets off to the best start in their new home!

Collar and Leash

A collar shows people that the dog has an owner – and this is especially important if they happen to get away from you at any point. Get one which has their name and your contact information for added peace of mind. One of the most important aspects involved in keeping a healthy dog is making sure that they get regular walks, and you will need a leash so that you can take them out.

Crate and Bed

When you are first bringing your dog home or you need to take them on a long journey, you will probably need a crate to transport them around. Make sure that you choose one which they can fit inside comfortably. And every dog should have a place in the house that they can all their own – a dog bed is the perfect way to provide them with this.

Food and Water Bowls

You should have at least a couple of food and water bowls so that you can provide your dog with what they need for a healthy life. At the bottom end of the scale, you have plastic bowls, which have the advantage of being lightweight and replaceable. Ceramic bowls are the more expensive option, but you will have to be especially careful to ensure that you don’t end up breaking them.

Food and Treats

The type of food and treats that you get for your dog very much depends on how old they are, their breed, and any other specific dietary requirements. You should also check out any other health products which may be useful like CBD for dogs. If you are at all unsure about what you should be feeding your puppy or dog, it is worth consulting with your vet, dog breeder, or the local animal centre. It is always worth being sure about what you are going to be feeding your dog before giving them anything.

Grooming Supplies

Washing, combing and brushing your dog on a regular basis is an integral part of making sure that they stay healthy. So, you will need to buy some grooming products like a dog brush, shampoo, etc. which allow you to do this. Nail clippers, toothbrushes, towels, and an ear cleaning solution are just a few of the things that you will need to keep your pooch clean.

It is certainly a big change of pace when you invite a dog into the family, and these are just a few of the products that will come in useful.
