Easy Ways To Prolong The Life Of Your Carpet

Tips for Synthetic Carpet Care and Maintenance

Carpeting has been the most popular way to finish our floors. They are aesthetically pleasing and provide thermal insulation. Carpets are easy to maintain too. To keep your carpet in pristine condition it is wise to always follow effective cleaning methods.  Thanks to the experts in carpet cleaning procarpetcleaningsydney.com.au for sharing these easy carpet maintenance techniques.

Types of Synthetic Fibres

Synthetic fibers are more durable and cheaper compared to natural fibers. Other than that, they are also resistant to water, heat, mildew, and chemicals. Here are the most common synthetic fiber types used in carpets.

  • Abrasion
  • Mildew

Nylon carpets are easy to maintain and dye. It is durable, static-free, and resistant to soiling and staining which made it the most popular type of synthetic fiber. Nylon is cheaper than wool making it a cost-efficient product to use for carpeting both in residential and commercial buildings.

Polypropylene or Olefin

Second from nylon, olefin makes up about 82% of commercial carpets. They are strong, resistant to moisture and mildew, and can be easily cleaned using bleach. It is best used in areas experiencing high traffic and sometimes it can be used as an artificial sports turf. Nowadays it’s becoming more popular than wool, polyester, and nylon due to its cheap price.

Polyester

This material offers a luxurious feel whilst resisting water-soluble stains. However, it can fade over time most especially when it is constantly exposed to sunlight. Also, polyester carpets cannot hold their fiber height in a high traffic area.

Acrylic

Acrylic is also known as man-made wool. This artificial fiber provides the look and feel of wool at a very minimal cost. Carpets made from acrylic are resistant to static electricity, sun damage, staining, moisture, mildew, and fading. However, this type of carpet is not suitable for high-traffic areas.

Care and Maintenance

After you are done with the installation of the carpet. It’s time to learn and understand how to maximize the life span of these carpets by providing optimum care. In a household with young kids, it’s a normal thing to spill some food or drink onto the carpet. Below are ways to clean and maintain your carpet.

1) Keep The Soil Off

The most efficient and effective way to keep your carpet clean is to avoid it from getting soiled. It might be confusing but this can be achieved by the use of walk-off mats. Walk-off mats should be long and large enough for anybody to wipe off the dirt on their shoes. Also, consider placing a second rug to scrape off the soil particles.

2) Remove Spills Right Away

The best way to treat spills is through blotting. This process is recommended than rubbing the spotted area with a wet cloth. Rubbing will increase the spread of the unwanted liquid on the carpet. To remove solid stains, scrap the spot under light pressure.  Also, you may use a paper towel or absorbent cloth to remove liquid stains like coffee and wine. To maintain the structural integrity of the carpet avoid using cleaning products meant for floors and walls especially if they contain bleach or other harsh chemicals.

3) Vacuum Regularly

We all understand the concept of vacuuming which is to remove dirt and dust. This does not only preserve the cleanliness of your carpet but also improves the air quality in your home. Therefore, when you’re buying a vacuum cleaner make sure that it provides care and protection to both your carpet and your health. In addition, proper vacuuming helps prevent soil from embedding into the pile of the carpet.

Final Thoughts

Keeping your synthetic carpet clean will eventually save you money in the long run. You won’t need to replace the carpet after a short time. So it’s very crucial to invest in quality cleaning detergents and machines. In cases where spillage is out of hand consider calling a professional cleaner to avoid further damage to your carpet and floors.
