Top 5 Features To Look For When Buying A Pool Heater

Top 5 Features To Look For When Buying A Pool Heater

Are you in search of a pool heater? Whether you’re swimming during a cold season or late at night, you’ll want the water to be warm enough for a pleasant experience. With a pool heater, you can enjoy longer swimming sessions at a warmer pool water temperature.

Don’t know where to begin? No worries. Here is a comprehensive guide to help you find the best high-performance pool heater for your needs.

The Pool Type

There are two common types of swimming pools. In ground and above ground. The main difference is that an above ground pool loses more heat than an in ground pool. Above-ground pools have a larger surface area than in ground pools, allowing heat to escape from the top and the sides.

This means that the above ground pools require a more powerful heater to increase the water temperature. The manufacturers usually mention what type of pool their heater will be suitable for. Some heaters are good for both.

The Pool Size

Knowing your pool’s dimensions can help you decide the correct heater size, which will be powerful enough to keep your pool at a comfortable temperature. Calculating the heater’s sizing requires knowledge of the pool’s surface area. If you’re not sure what size heater you need for your pool, it’s advisable to consult an expert. These factors include the pool’s total surface area as well as the difference between your average air temperature and your ideal water temperature.

Types Of Pool Heaters

There are three types of swimming pool heaters.  Each type of heater operates on a rather different principle than the others. They consist of:

  • Solar panel heaters – Solar pool heaters are basically solar panels that circulate pool water so that it can be heated. To heat the pool, a circulation system transfers heat from the solar heater panels back to the water.
  • Electric heat pumps – Heating a swimming pool with an electric heat pump involves drawing heat from the air and transferring it to the water. Because of their reliance on a stable ambient temperature, electric heat pumps are classified as a form of solar energy.
  • Gas pool heaters – A gas pool heater burns either natural gas or propane in a combustion chamber and heats the copper coils through which your pool water circulates. It quickly warms the water as it goes back to the pool.

The Climate

There are a number of variables that can affect your heater’s performance such as sunlight and air temperature. For instance, unlike gas and electric heaters, heat pumps and solar heaters are extremely reliant on stable weather conditions to function well.

Pool Heater Size

Before purchasing a pool heater based on the size, there are a few factors you need to put in consideration.

  1. The volume of your pool.
  2. How long do you plan to keep it (Is it for months or years)
  3. How often you use it (regularly or less often)

Putting these factors into consideration will help you determine how big and how well your pool heater will work. If you only use your pool occasionally, a smaller pool heater may be all you need. If your pool is much larger, however, you may want to consider a larger pool heater. If you’re working with a pool professional to select the correct heater, be sure to bring these things up.

Conclusion

When you’re deciding on the proper heater for your pool, be sure to put the above factors into considerations. Swim comfortably and enjoy your pool no matter how cold it is outside with the appropriate pool heater.
