KKL Primitives – Handmade Primitives with Personality
When I shop for handmade items, especially dolls, I like to admire how much personality a skilled artist puts into what they make. Denise is one of those artists. Every item she make has wonderful personality!
What inspired you to start crafting?
When I was 20 and living in Michigan, my in-laws would drive in from Pittsburgh once a month for a long weekend. My mother had given me her old Morse sewing machine but I didn’t know how to sew. My mother-in-law taught me how to stitch a straight line and I made my first puff quilt. Next, she taught me how to follow a McCalls pattern and I made a jumpsuit and a pair of slacks. Neither of which fit me. Sewing clothes was not my forte.
After that, she brought craft kits like flower making, candle making, jewelry making, which I really enjoyed. In later years, I started making wreaths for my front door and my daughters’ homes. Plus, scarecrows for Halloween. Also, I liked to make my own potpourri. I eventually started selling in local craft shows, but that only lasted two years. There area where I lived wasn’t into country primitive decor. I then tried my hand at selling on eBay and Etsy.
