Wallpaper or Paint for Your Home Makeover?

Perhaps you’ve just moved into a new home or you’ve been in your old home for years, either way, you know when you need to give your walls a makeover. Transforming your walls can bring a room to life. But you have to decide how to do it and choose between wallpaper or paint.

Wallpaper or Paint for Your Home Makeover

The pros of choosing wallpaper.

Wallpaper is making quite a comeback because of the variety of available options. Nowadays wallpaper is made with higher quality material and is more durable than before. You can expect new wallpaper to last at least ten years. Whether you want to transform a wall or create an entirely new feeling, the options are limitless.

The cons of choosing wallpaper.

When you want to change your wallpaper, you have to remove it carefully with a scraper and wallpaper solvent. Making repairs also requires time and effort as you will first have to remove the damaged wallpaper. You will then have to carefully align the new wallpaper with the old. However, you might also have the option of painting over your wallpaper, but this will depend on the type of wallpaper and its condition. Wallpaper can start to peel in moist, humid conditions, or extreme heat, so it may not be suitable for the kitchen and bathroom. Hanging wallpaper is time-consuming and complex and is ideally carried out by a skilled and experienced tradesman. However, you can get professional advice on all this from a good wallpaper store.

The pros of painting.

Paint is available in a wide variety of colours and textures. Paint can withstand even the moist, humid conditions of your bathroom. Painting your walls is an easy job, the key to a good finish is in the preparation. Once you have cleaned and prepared the surface, sanded and primed the wall, and masked off the areas that don’t need painting, you can apply the paint quickly and easily. If you want to change the paintwork in a room, and the walls are in good condition, you can pretty much paint directly over them.

The cons of painting.

Painting a room may be easy, but in high-traffic areas of your house, the paint may get easily damaged and sometimes need touch-ups. Finally, most paint needs a fresh coat every three or four years, whereas wallpaper can easily last for a decade or more.

So, think carefully and decide whether paint or wallpaper will work best for you.
