Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney can be too cool this time of year but outdoor activities should still be in your plans. Things are a tad warmer in Katherine but don’t sit inside all day. Our lives are about experience. You could avoid some dangers by staying inside, but you will miss all of the great experiences as well.
If you don’t have a ballroom gown, you’ll never go ballroom dancing. If you don’t have a picnic basket, you’ll never go on a romantic or any other picnic. Outdoor activities and equipment or clothing can be expensive. Start simple with a lunch at the park or beach.
Fill a thermos with hot coffee or tea, and another for the soup to go with your baked bread. A glass of wine could help to keep you warm and/or relaxed. In the hot North, some cold pasta salad, fruit, and adult beverages in a cooler will be just the thing.
When we head out on a hiking trail and want to keep moving; trail mixes or protein bars will keep us fuelled. Packaged cured meats and jerky are great protein additions to your pack.
A hiking stove can boil water rapidly. The diverse variety and quality of boil-in-bag products have exploded in recent years. I think the disaster preppers brought meal diversity to the industry. Lightweight and delicious with a long shelf life, these meals have many uses as global food shortages grow.
We will find it difficult to carry a cooler when hiking, but when camping for an extended time they are necessary. Dairy products, meat, and produce can grow bacteria and kill people if not properly handled. My recommendation is to wash, prepare, cook, and package as much food as possible at home where things are cleaner. You will also save cooking time while camping so you have more fun time.
Another pro tip is to separate your beverages and food. For contamination purposes but also ice preservation. Ice is always a commodity in the great outdoors. You should check out portable refrigerators that can be plugged in at the site or your vehicle.
Wood-burning stoves are extremely kit for extreme conditions. Keep it simple and get a good campsite with a grill and fire pit. A Dutch oven or an all-in-one-pot recipe is another easy, flavourful menu option while outdoors. Don’t forget your cast iron pans, pudgy pies, coffee percolator, cookware, and plenty of aluminum foil.
In QLD there are picnic Sundays at the government house. Pack a simple lunch and blanket. Bring the whole family and enjoy a wholesome afternoon with local friends and family. Check your municipality for other parades, or festivals where you can experience more of the great outdoors.
Do not quarantine yourself due to the weather.
