What To Do if You Get Hurt From a Fall

What To Do if You Get Hurt From a Fall

Falling is something that happens to just about everyone at some point. Whether you’re walking down the stairs, climbing a ladder, or simply trying to get out of bed, chances are good that you’ll take a tumble sooner or later. If you’re lucky, a fall will be nothing more than an embarrassing moment that you can laugh about afterward. Unfortunately, it’s also possible to sustain serious injuries from falling. Here are some things that you can do to recover from a fall.

Address Any Injuries

You should check yourself over for injuries right after a fall. If you have a friend or family member who can help you with this task, so much the better: Having a second set of eyes is a big advantage. If your fall was relatively mild, you might not sustain any injuries. You might feel sore for a day or two, but that’s about it. If you end up with even the slightest injury, though, it’s important to take note. If you hit your head or sustain a serious cut, you may have a concussion or other injury that requires immediate medical attention. If you feel numbness, a headache, nausea, or dizziness, you should go to the doctor. If your fall results in a sprained or broken bone, you should also go to a doctor as soon as possible.

Record the Event

If you fall on someone else’s property, you should make sure to record the event. This way, you have evidence that it happened, and you have a record of the extent of your injuries. If you have property damage, it’s also wise to take pictures of the scene and record details about the event. If you can, record the date and time, the names of any witnesses, and the details surrounding the situation. If another person is responsible for your fall, you may be able to file a claim for compensation. You could hire a personal injury lawyer in Los Angeles to help you with this process.

Eat Well and Rest

Finally, after a slip-and-fall injury, you might need to start paying attention to your diet and taking better care of yourself. You need to give your body the proper nutrients that it needs and avoid food that could increase inflammation. You should also make sure that you’re not aggravating your condition and you’re resting up properly. Aim for at least eight hours of sleep every night so that the cells in your body can be replenished. It also might be a good idea to take some time off from work. You can use some natural painkillers and anti-inflammatories to help you deal with any pain or discomfort, but you should ask your doctor about them first. Proper self-care can help you get back on your feet quicker and with less lasting damage.

Remember to think positive when recovering from a fall. Try to stay focused on your recovery and be patient about it. Everyone heals at their own pace and you don’t want to exacerbate any issues that you might have.
