Why It’s Important That You Keep Your Mattresses Clean

Why It's Important That You Keep Your Mattresses Clean

Mattresses are something that most people don’t really think about while they’re house cleaning. They’re kind of just there, taking up space, and you probably don’t spend a lot of time on them when you’re not sleeping. But the truth is that there are a lot of reasons why it’s important that mattresses are cleaned just like everything else.

1. Increased Air Quality

Having a mattress that’s free of dust mites, grime, dirt, and sweat increases the cleanliness of your home. If you’re unsure what to clean your mattress with, the team from CleanBee recommends using a vacuum that can vacuum, wash and clean the surface. Since a mattress is similar to a large sponge in some ways, it absorbs all kinds of scents and smells that accumulate over time. And since even the smallest one is still large, it can become a sort of reverse-air filter – instead of making your room smell great, it adds to the air pollution inside of your home if not properly maintained.

2. Reduce Allergies

Dust mites and bacteria are all things that you can find in your mattress. This is especially true if you have pets – even if they’re not allowed on the mattress, their hair can still travel to the bed and get stuck. All of It can add to the number of allergens already in your home when not properly maintained, which isn’t good for people who suffer from asthma or allergies. A clean mattress will not only make you less likely to have allergies, but it will also reduce the effects if they do occur.

3. Prolonged Usability

With a clean mattress, you’re giving yourself the chance to keep it around for as long as possible. By neutering all of the allergens that are living in your bed, you’re making sure that they won’t irritate the skin on your body or become uncomfortable over time. The more often you can clean your mattress, the better life you’ll be able to get out of it. When maintaining your mattress, it’s easier to keep the dust mites away if the bed has already been cleaned recently. Since there’ll be no build-up, you’ll never be in a situation where it’s too dirty to clean.

4. Piece Of Mind

Sleeping on a clean mattress is a great feeling. Knowing that all of the dirt and grime has been removed from where you sleep will give you peace of mind, and ensure that you can get to sleep quickly and easily whenever it’s bedtime. Putting clean linens on a dirty mattress is kind of similar to wearing clean clothes after a workout at the gym. On the other hand, when you know everything is fresh and clean, it’s a lot easier to fall asleep and enjoy yourself.

5. Healthier Skin

Mattresses absorb a lot of moisture while we sleep, and can leave us feeling uncomfortable if it’s not kept clean. A clean mattress will reduce skin problems like acne or rashes that are often caused by the material in the mattress being unable to breathe properly, trapping sweat and moisture inside of it. A skincare routine isn’t really complete without a clean mattress and will help to ensure that your face is feeling fresh and clean every time you wake up.

While it’s definitely important to keep your mattress clean, it isn’t always easy to do it on your own. Washing them is one thing, but remember that you need to make sure they’re dry too before you put your sheets back on. If that seems like a lot of work for you, you can consider hiring a professional cleaning service to take care of your mattress for you. Since it’s a large object that requires a lot of upkeep, you might as well get the most out of it by going this route.
